Review of UK Vs The World Season 1 Episode 5
Hello gorgeous people, i hope you're having a wonderful day. Today I'll be doing the review of UK Vs The World Episode 5 (The Semi-final). For this week, the queens had to write and record their verses for the Rupaul song called "Living my Life in London" and then on the runway the category was "Werk of Art", basically wearing an outfit inspired by a very famous piece of art. Before going into the their performance on the challenge and on the runway, just want to give you a warning of SPOILERS AHEAD. You have warned.
In my opinion, all of them look great. Considering these were looks that they could perform in, i think they chose nice outfits, the colors were amazing and everyone's makeup looks so good and they actually look like a real girl group, almost like a new version of the Spice Girls. For me, Mo and Blu had the best performing looks and especially i love the fact that Mo was the only queen to wear pants because not all drag queens can look that stunning in pants but Mo took that risk and it paid off, in my opinion. At first glance, you could say that Blu's outfit, even though, it looks so good, it doesn't seem the most comfortable look to dance in but that's not true because with all those ruffles, that creates movement even was she does little dance moves, making her performance one of the most dynamic in the group and also makes her stand out even when she is the background during the queens solos. Juju, Baga and Janey also look very good but their looks didn't stand out as much as the other two queens (Mo and Blu).
Next up, we Baga Chipz. On this episode, I have to be honest, I was expecting a lot more from Baga only because she is in a girl group that have some success (The Frock Destroyers) so I thought this type of challenge would be easy for her but i feel like she didn't live up to the expectations. Her performance was good but nothing outstanding about it, she was funny, her verse was campy but then again i wish she would do something new, something different not rely on the same jokes and catchphrases because i know she is creative and can come up with brilliant ideas but she is not doing it, for some reason. On the runway, she delivered a cute look, and in the runway she delivered something different, she tried to level up her look and i appreciate that. I love the sunflowers, i think they are very cute and i really enjoy the whole concept of the outfit but there are some things that could be better, the main thing being the vase should be more tailored to her body, it looks like it doesn't fit her. If it was tailored, she outfit would be 10x better but overall she delivered a cute look and i like it. Baga made her way into the finale but if she has to lipsync for the win, i think she is going to struggle because lipsync is not something that she is the best at but maybe she can surprise everyone and deliver an amazing lipsync, so we'll have to wait and see what she is going to do in the finale.
First off, let's look at their performance looks:
First up, we have Mo Heart. Mo was the star of this episode, from start to finish, she owned this episode, I got to know more about her story, about her journey through conversion therapy, how she got out of it and then on the challenge and runway she slayed it. On the challenge, her verse was the best and i can't stop listening to it, her choreography was the most challenging and still she didn't miss a step and she looked so confident which made shine even more. On the runway she served this lavender dress with a helmet covered in flowers and then when she took off that helmet, I could see her makeup which was stunning and had so many details. This dress itself, fits her very nicely, i love that she only has one sleeve, love the color of the dress and also the colors of the flowers. The only thing i'm not crazy about this is that the heart in the middle of the chest, i wish it was smaller so it wouldn't be as distracting as it is. Nonetheless, Mo was hungry for a moment of shine and she got it and I'm happy she did because throughout this competition she had some good moments but there was always someone who did better than her in every challenge so she didn't got the deserved recognisition until this episode before the finale. I'm very curious to see what she does in the finale.
Next up, we have Blu Hydrangea. Blu, in this episode, was yet again overlooked by the judges and that makes me so sad because she did so good both on the challenge and runway but for some reason the judges didn't feel that. On the challenge, her verse was very good, she mentioned the fact that she is genderfluid and how proud she is about that and in her verse she also mentioned the fact that she had the courage to send the biggest competition home in the week prior, which i personally don't agree with the decision she made but i respect it and i still love her. On the runway, she served the best look of this week, in my opinion. The colors of this dress are amazing, i love how vibrant they are, love the big collar, her makeup is alwyas flawless and i also love the fit of this dress, she was clearly a standout on that runway. To my surprise, the judges didn't like this look, they said that this outfit was wearing Blu and not the other way around which baffles me because she clearly modelled this outfit so well and looked so confident doing it but the judges didn't like it. In my opinion, the judges just didn't want her to be in top again so they decided to criticize her outfit to justify her not being in the top. Blu still managed to not be eliminated which means she is in the finale and personally I think she can surprise everyone and maybe even win that crown. I'm just worried if the judges are going to see it that way.
Next up, we have Jujubee also known as Juju. This week, Juju finally woke up to this competition and finally showed the Juju that i know and love which made me very happy and also making me wonder if she can take the crown with her, which sounds crazy and not impossible. On the challenge, she proved how amazing of a singer she is, her choreography was more simple when compared to the other queens but still did it without missing any steps and finally i could see her having fun in the challenge, feeling confident and happy. On the runway she surprised me again with this look, she looks like a goddess, her headpiece looks so expensive, the fit of the dress is good and i'm glad we can see her silhouette because with so much fabric you can lose your waist but the way the fabric is displayed on this dress you don't lose the waist which is good because if you don't have a silhouette, the judges will say that to you. This is the best look that Juju wore on this season and she did it right before the finale proving everyone that could be a real threat and contender for the crown. This is was also an episode where Juju truly shined and she got rewarded because of what she did and also because of how amazing her redemption was in just one episode. With Juju in the finale where they will have to lipsync to get the crown, she could come out on top because she is considered one of the best lipsync assassins of the whole show. Let's see how it goes.
And last but not the least, we have Janey Jacké also known as JJ. In this episode, JJ was the queen that struggled the most while recording her verse mostly because she is not a singer but she still decided to sing which was not a good decision and i think her struggling on recording the verse, broke her confidence a little bit. On the challenge, she knew all of her choreography but had some problems with her ponytail because it kept falling in front of her face and you could see in her face that she was getting a little bit defeated everytime that ponytail would get on her face. On the runway, she delivered a recreation of a Marilyn Monroe portrait by Andy Warhol and i think she did great, i really enjoy her makeup and the wig and the green dress looked amazing but i think when compared to other queen's outfits, hers fell a little under the radar which it's not a good thing to happen especially when you are a top 5 where fading into the background is not acceptable by the judges because if you don't stand out among other 4 queens, when will you be stand out? Janey towards the end of the episode kept getting more defeated and that made the Top 2 queens question her desire to stay in the competition and fight fot the crown.
Placements of this episode:
TOP 2 - Mo Heart and Jujubee
BOTTOM 3 - Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea and Janey Jacké
Mo Heart and Juju are the Top 2 of the week. Being in this position for the first time in this season, Mo and Juju feel very happy to be in the finale but they still have to make the decision of sending someone home, which is very hard especially being so close to finale but it is the rules of the game. To send someone home, they have to win the lipsync. The Top 2 lipsync to "Toy" by Netta. I'm so happy that they used an Eurovision song (being a Eurovision fan myself) on this show and both of the girls turned it out. Juju was more funny while Mo decided to dance throughout the whole song. In the end, Juju wins the lipsync and she decided to send home Janey Jacké. It was sad to see Janey go because before this season started i really didn't care for her but watching her on this season i actually enjoyed her a lot and i found myself rooting for her so it's sad to see her go but maybe in the future we will see her again on another season, atleast that's what i hope. The top 4 being Baga, Blu, Mo and Juju, honestly i'm rooting for everyone, i think all of them have a good chance of winning the crown and i am excited to see who wins this season and becomes the Queen of the World.
