My 10 Favourite Winners of Rupaul's Drag Race
Hello gorgeous people, hope you are having a wonderful day, today I will not be doing a review of UK Vs The World (that review is going to be published on Friday) but I'm going to do a top 10 of my favourite winners of Rupaul's Drag Race, including all the franchises. The winners who are not on this top doesn't mean i hate them or i don't like them, it's not the case, it just the fact that, in my opinion, there are winners that i feel more connected to and that's one of the reasons why those people are on my top 10. Before talking about these winners, I just want to give you a warning of SPOILERS AHEAD. You have been warned.
On the number 9, I have Priyanka from Drag Race Canada Season 1. When i first saw Priyanka, i thought she was going to be a funny queen, someone that would be amazing in the confessionals and basically always good at making people laugh. And she did that, in the confessionals she was hilarious and also so relatable. Everytime there was drama or some delusional behavior she would always say in the confessionals what everyone was thinking but nobody had the courage to say it and i love that about her. Concerning her journey on the season, she also started this competition quite strong, then had stumbles and near the finale she started to get more strong and ended up having an amazing performance on the finale, her final look was the best one of the entire season and she killed on the lipsync, so her winning the season was justified. She won 2 challenges (Episode 3 and 8) but was also in the bottom 2 twice (Episode 5 and 7) but she delivered iconic performances in every lipsync she was in and because of that i consider her a lipsync assassin. One of her strongest area was when it came to writing and recording lyrics (even won a challenge based on that) so after winning the show, she started recording some music and even launched an EP called "Taste Test" which is quite great and has some bops, including the song "Come Through" featuring Lemon, her castmate and also a contestant on UK Vs The World. She is very active on her social media (especially on Twitter) and she was always there cracking some jokes, connecting with her fans and also sometimes she likes to throw shade to some of her friends (mainly Lemon).
On number 8, i have Yvie Oddly from Rupaul's Drag Race Season 11. Yvie came into the competition as the "weirdo" and i have soft spot for queens like her who don't care about being polished and mostly do drag to have fun and to be a way of expressing themselves. She is one of the few queens that won this show having only 1 challenge (Episode 2) but she was very close of winning many more challenges but Rupaul always thought there was somebody who did better on those challenges. She proved that she can make outfits, be funny, do performances based on gymnastics, write lyrics and list goes on and on. On the season, Yvie got into a lot of fights with some other castmates because she saw that some of those girls wouldn't apply the judges critiques to get better and for some reason that would make Yvie upset and because of that many of the girls were not a fan of her. But what i love the most about Yvie is that she is direct, she doesn't go to people's back and talk shit about them, if she has something to say, she would say it to their faces. Her journey in the competition was overall strong but also had some stumbles. The first half of the competition she was one of the strongest queens there but then on the second half, it looks like she was getting tired and that damaged her performance in some of the challenges. She had to lipsync once (Episode 8) and totally delivered one of the best performances on Rupaul's Drag Race and she also totally slayed those finale lipsyncs, making her the winner of the season. So i also consider her a lipsync assassin, not only because her performances were legendary but also because she won all lipsyncs she was in (she won, in total, 3 lipsyncs).
On number 7, I have Bob The Drag Queen (also known as BTDQ) from Rupaul's Drag Race Season 8. Probably one the most funny and relatable queens of the entire show. Season 8 was a very short season and it was dominated by Bob, she absolutely came into this competition ready to slay and she did that. She showed that she is a total package, winning 3 challenges (Episodes 3,5 and 7) all of them being comedy challenges but she also had some great runway looks, my favourite being the black and white clown look. Besides winning all of those challenges, she also a had a bad week meaning she had to lipsync once (Episode 8) on a challenge based on looks proving that on the runway she sometimes didn't hit the mark. She invented the catchphrase "Purse First" and then used it on a song (which is amazing) lauching her music career. She is one of the most famous queens from the show, she has her podcast with another winner, Mónet X Change, her youtube channel where she does reviews of episodes of Drag Race and from time to time she also records some videos where she tries to follow some makeup tutorials from another queens that were on the show. So as you can see, she used her fame of being a winner to make a name for herself and she uses her platform to talk about some serious issues being the main one the racism that still exists. You can say that she is also an activist and i truly admire her for standing for what she believes in regardless of the consequences. She also has a show called "We're Here" alongside Eureka and Shangela, two other queens from Rupaul's Drag Race.
10. Krystal Versace (UK Season 3)
On the number 10, I have the youngest queen to ever win Drag Race, Krystal Versace. With only 19 years old, she took the third season of Drag Race UK by storm and proved to everyone that being young doesn't mean you don't have the experience required to win the competition, even Rupaul himself said to Krystal that she was born to do drag (I don't think there's a better compliment than that). She won the first 2 maxi challenges of the season and then started to be safe most of times and on the last week before the finale she had to lipsync to stay in the competition, so her journey was not that smooth, she had some stumbles but one thing she always delivered was her looks. Almost every single look she served was high fashion, well tailored and some of them were even more on the campy side, showcasing her range in fashion and also with makeup. Some of the fans don't agree with her winning mostly because there were another queens in the finale who won more challenges or were more times on the top which is true but i still think she did deserved to win because on that finale she completely slayed the challenge and her runway was the best out of the top 3 (she wore that black dress you see on the left). Let's also not forget about the fact that Krystal is a very good lipsyncer and, in my opinion, she delivered the best lipsync performance on the finale. Basically Krystal slayed that finale episode and also was another proof that she was a deserving winner. Can't wait to see what she does in the future and how much success she is going to get outside of Drag Race.
9. Priyanka (Canada Season 1)
8. Yvie Oddly (Drag Race US Season 11)
7. Bob The Drag Queen (Drag Race US Season 8)
6. Envy Peru (Holland Season 1)
On number 5, I have the winner of Season 7 of Rupaul's Drag Race, Violet Chachki. Season 7 is considered, by the fandom, one of the worst seasons of the show and I kinda agree, this season has some weak points and that is because of the challenges being heavily based on comedy/acting and not so much on fashion but even having so many of those challenges, the winner of the whole season was a fashion queen. As some other winners on this list, Violet had a very strong start, an okay middle and then became strong again towards the end. She won 3 challenges (Episode 1, 10 and 11) and never had to lipsync to stay in the competition and i'm glad she didn't because Season 7 is full of lipsync assassins so if Violet ever landed on the bottom with one of those, she would be in deep danger. Violet was portrayed a little bit as a villain by the other girls but honestly she just was a queen that would voice her opinions and sometimes would even see the things in a more realistic way and that bothered some other queens. Also, Violet was always very confident in herself but never cocky (which i love) and I think that was the reason why some other queens were trying to paint her as villain. When it came to the runway, Violet has so many iconic looks, she embodied fashion everytime and almost everytime had the strongest look out of everyone. She did struggle with some comedy challenges but overall her runways would save her. Since winning the season, she started to tour the world with other queens, started doing aerial shows and nowadays is invited to some fashions shows for big brands, has a drag daugther called Gottmik, a contestant from Rupaul's Drag Race Season 13 and is still one of the most famous names that came out of Rupaul's Drag Race.
On number 4, I have the first ever winner of Drag Race Spain, Carmen Farrala. When i first saw Carmen i thought she was just another pretty face meaning she was going to be good on sewing/fashion challenge but she would struggle in challenges based on comedy and acting. I've come to find out that i was very wrong about that. Carmen totally dominated the season and she became one of my favourites on episode 2, where she totally slayed the girl group challenge and delivered an iconic runway inspired in "La Veneno", which was the category. She won 3 challenges (Episode 2,6 and 7) and never had to lipsync to stay in the competition and she did slay her finale lipsync serving an iconic performance and that is considered by many, myself included, one of best performances of the show. She was so friendly, so funny and also a little bit shady. She even landed one of her outfits to another queen and had to made one from scratch and she even won a challenge in that outfit, which is impressive to say the least. Season 2 of Drag Race Spain is coming this month and can't wait to see who is going to win but i don't think the winner will be as iconic and stunning as Carmen is. Nowadays she does work with big brands, she also makes outfits for some pop artists and has done many interviews to talk about her journey on the show, making a name for herself.
On the number 2, I have Bianca Del Rio from Rupaul's Drag Race Season 6. Bianca came into this competition ready to win and that's what she did. Many people say that she wore the same dress but in a different color but i don't totally agree, yes the dresses are very similiar when it comes to silhouette but the dresses looked so good, she modelled them in an amazing way and sometimes she changed the silhoutte to showcase versatility, but also this competition is more than runway looks, the challenges are very important and she shined in almost every one of them especially the ones based on comedy, acting and sewing. She won 3 challenges (Episode 2, 8 and 10) and never had to lipsync to stay in the competition and just like Violet, i'm glad she didn't have to lipsync because Bianca is not known for knowing how to lipsync, she is more known for being shady and for her ability to read everyone in a very easy and quick way, making many queens from the show (incluiding all seasons) afraid of saying something bad about Bianca. She is also very funny, i could listen to her telling jokes for hours and i will never get bored. Bianca may be a shady queen and sometimes rude but she is also ready to help someone in need and you could see that on Season 6 when Bianca decided to help Adore Delano landing her a corset so Adore wouldn't be critiqued on her body while wearing gowns. After that, they became bestfriends and they still are to this day and sometimes they do some shows together alongside other queens from Season 6, proving that the friendship was not to look good on camera and it's actually real.
My favourite queen of all time is the one and only Jinkx Monsoon, the winner of Rupaul's Drag Race Season 5. Jinkx, in my opinion, got the most satisfying win ever because of the way she was treated throughout the competition, always being mistreated by the queens, being underestimated and ultimately feeling alone after her bestfriend Ivy Winters got eliminated in the Top 7 episode. Jinkx was the ultimate underdog despite having the best track record of the season and being in the Top 3 in 8 episodes straight, which made some of the queens furious and mad at her. Imagine being mad at someone for being talented. Jinkx won 2 challenges (Episode 5 and 9) and had to lipsync once (Episode 11) eliminating the lipsync assassin Detox. Jinkx was amazing in comedy, acting and singing challenges and her only downfall were challenges that were related to fashion and about constructing outfits. Jinkx's fashion was very inspired by the 60's and the 70's (which i love) but sometimes the outfits were a miss but when they were right, she was the one to watch. I still think her "Dia de los Muertos" look was one of the most memorable and one of the reasons why she won the challenge in that episode. Season 5 is known for having strong personalities and a lot of fashion so you would think maybe Jinkx could become lost in the mix and she actually was the star of the season from the beginning to end, she was always prepared for every challenge and also to fight against narcolepsy in order to do well in the challenge. Even with everyone against her, she still won the season, rightfully so and is still to this day, one of the most loveable winners and an inspiration for the all the "weirdos" in the world. You can say that after so many years, I'm still living in my monsoon season.
On my number 6, I have the first ever winner of Drag Race Holland, Envy Peru. Even before the premiere of season 1, Envy already had a huge following on Social Media, she already was on a video with the youtuber Nikkie Tutorials so when she actually was confirmed to be on Season 1, the expectations were high and Envy didn't disappoint. From the first episode, i already had a feeling that she would go very far in the season because you look at her and you see greatness, she really was born to do drag and actually, in my opinion, she is one of the few queens that i could see hosting a franchise of Drag Race because she is that good. This season had, without the finale, 7 episodes and she won 4 challenges and never had to lipsync to stay in the competition, which is something incredible and not a lot of winners can do that. Even when she didn't win a challenge, she was still memorable and her runway looks in every episode were so amazing, her fashion was and still on point and the way she walks the runway is outstanding. She basically showed that she can do anything and that's impressive because usually there's a week where winner doesn't do that good but she was the exception and maybe one day, we will see her as a host of Drag Race Holland. She is still considered by many one of the best winners of the whole show (all franchises included) and her success keeps getting bigger and bigger. Can't wait to see what she does next.
5. Violet Chachki (Drag Race US Season 7)
4. Carmen Farala (Drag Race Spain Season 1)
3. Jaida Essence Hall (Drag Race US Season 12)
On the number 3, I have Jaida Essence Hall, the winner of Rupaul's Drag Race Season 12. Jaida is the essence of beauty and she truly proved that on the season, gracing our screens with high fashion looks and a high level of professionalism that set her apart from the beginning. She, then again, started strong in the beginning, then flew a little bit under the radar and then towards the end, she became stronger again. She won 3 challenges (Episode 2, 9 and 10) and had to lipsync to stay in the competition once on Episode 11, which i think it was unfair, she didn't deserve to be in the bottom. Jaida's win is for some fans not deserved but i totally disagree. It was definitely the best decision to crown her, she is funny, beautiful, professional, relatable and is also very self aware. There was another queen that won 1 more challenge than Jaida and never had to lipsync but some of the wins that queen got were questionable, that queen got some free passes when she clearly deserved to be in the bottom and i feel like i got to know more about Jaida than the other queen. Jaida was also a little bit the underdog, people thought she was just a pretty face and just another pageant queen which is not true, she is much more than that. And the thing that i admire the most about her is that almost every outfit tha she wore, she made them herself because she didn't have the enough money to buy outfits for the show so she had to make them. I always love when a queen does every outfit that she wears because it already shows her vision in fashion and lets everyone knows how amazing you are at sewing. Jaida is a powerhouse in the world of Drag Race and sometimes she performs in Vegas besides having the "Werq The World" tour every year, showing, yet again, why she deserved to win Season 12.
2. Bianca Del Rio (Drag Race US Season 6)
1. Jinkx Monsoon (Drag Race US Season 5)
