Hello Gorgeous people, today I'll be doing the review of episode 2 of UK Vs The World Season 1. In this episode the challenge was a ball. A ball challenge is based on the queens presenting 3 different looks based on 3 categories and the look of the last category, they have to make it by themselves using the fabric that is provided. In this episode, it was the Rupaul Ball, which categories were, in order, "Kitty Girl" (basically wearing a cat look), "Butch Queen" (basically wearing a look that is more masculine and rough) and "You Wear it Well" (creating a look that Rupaul himself would want to wear).
Now that you know in what consists this challenge, let's take a look at what every queen served on the runway this week and I'm going to give my opinion on every look. I just want to point ou that I love every queen on this season and sometimes i maybe can give some rough opinions but it's just because I know that the queen in question can do a lot better. And also remember SPOILERS AHEAD. You have been warned.
First up on the runway, we have Baga Chipz. She started by serving this cat look which was the strongest look by her in this episode and it's still not a great look, for me. I think she did sell this garment very well but i felt like when compared to some other queens cat looks, hers gets a little bit lost in the mix but i do appreciate the fact that she did someting outside of her box. For the "Butch Queen" look she presented this type of military look and then again it was not successful, it looked like it didn't fit her properly, the wig should have been different and the way she modelled it was very weird. And for the "You Wear it Well" category she walked the runway in this sort of tube dress that is executed very poorly and those stones she has on the dress, they were put on it by the fellow cast member Pangina Heals. If it wasn't for her, this look would have been even worse and i don't see Rupaul wearing a dress similiar to this one. At the end of the day, she gets a free pass by the judges, which shocks her and also the majority of the fandom because judging by these three looks, she should have been in bottom but the judges, for some reason, didn't think so.
Next up, we have Blu Hydrangea. And before going into the looks, i just wanna say she did amazing in this episode and proved that she still is the queen of the makeup brush. So, for the cat look, she served an high-fashion version of a cat-suit. I love the fur on the catsuit because it makes the look more rich and even avant-garde. When it comes to the makeup, she was one of the queens that fully transformed her whole into a cat. For the "Butch Queen" look she completely slayed this category, she served one of my favorites looks of the episode. The dress fit her like a glove, i love the way is tailored, the silhouette and she even added some fake tattoos on her arms. And finally for the "You Wear it Well" look, she walked the runway this one sleeve dress (which is very Rupaul) and i think it was a very good look athough i think the colour she chose for the dress was not good because it's a color that Rupaul himself doesn't wear that often and also it doesn't make her stand-out. But even if the colour is not the best, the silhoutte is the same as Rupaul, the wig is also very Rupaul and overall it was still a very good look. For some reason, the judges, in my opinion overlooked her this week which still baffles me. Let's see if they keep overlooking Blu.
Now we have Cheryl Hole to talk about. First, she served on the runway, a white cat look which overall it was an okay look for me. It's just a cute cat look with a big bow on the back but then again when you look at the other queens cat looks it's just not enough. For the first category i think she played way to safe and didn't step outside of her box. For the second look, she actually, when it comes to look itself, presented a very strong look and i really do like it. Although, does this outfit really fits the category of "Butch Queen"? I don't think so. For me she looks so good but i don't see butch in it, she looks like a badass motorcycle girl that is ready to take on the world but that's it. Strong look but not for this category. And lastly we have the Rupaul look and we can see that sewing is not Cheryl's best ability but atleast she tried to come up with something wearable and i think she did it but it's probably one of the weakest looks on this episode for this category which sucks because i know that she treid her best and it was not enough for me and also not for the judges. And looking at this orange dress with some fabric wrapped around it, this is not a look that Rupaul would want to wear for some reasons, the main reason being that this is not the Rupaul silhouette. It was not a good episode for Cheryl, unfortunately.
Next up, we have Janey Jacké, also known as JJ. First, we have this egyptian cat look, which i think it is a good look but it could have been better. I wish the cat ears could be bigger and the outfit itself can look a little bit costumey, if that makes sense but nonetheless it's still a good look to start. For the "Bucth Queen" look, she served an "Orange is The New Black" inspired look, i love the reference and i think she did a very good job on it and it's probably the first time that i noticed that JJ is not afraid to look a bit more rough or butch and that shows that she knows what she is doing and i appreciate that. For the last category, she served this one sleeve disco dress with some cape behing the dress and i have to say that she did very well in this last category, the colors are so pretty and it's something that i could see Rupaul wearing but, in my opinion, there were some looks that were stronger when it comes to execution but coming from last week she did a full 180º and showed to everyone that she can be a good contender to go all the way and last week's performance was just a fluke.
Next up, on the runway we have Jimbo. Since this a runway based challenge, i have to admit i was scared for Jimbo because her looks sometimes can be so amazing but sometimes she can serve a look that is not as amazing. But I'm glad that the first scenario happened. For the first look, Jimbo totally met the category, this cat look is so good, the colors are vibrant, the look itself is so well put together and i love her padding. Such a first strong look. For the "Butch Queen" look, Jimbo basically served a better version of what Cheryl was trying to serve with her Butch look, Everything abou the look is amazing, i love that she always tries to incorporate her big boobs on an outfit and everytime she does it, it looks good. The second look was also very strong. For the last category, if there was somebody that totally served Rupaul on the runway, that person was Jimbo not only she looks like Rupaul when it comes to hair and makeup also the dress she made is something that Rupaul would totally wear. The dress is so well made, the way she presented on the runway was amazing and I love that she showing her legs, giving a little more of a sexy side. With these 2 first weeks, Jimbo put herself as a frontrunner in this competition but let's see if she can keep this momentum.
Next up we have Jujubee, also known as Juju. It's hard for me to say someting bad about Juju's performace this episode because i love her but Juju, in my opinion did the worst in this challenge. All of her 3 looks didn't make any sense to any of three categories. Even though, i think she is a wonderful queen she is not rising to the occasion, to the level of this competition, to the point that even the judges are questioning that if she wants to be on this competition and fight for the prize or this is just a hobby for her and she is just killing time. For the "Kitty Look", Juju basically wore a cheap silver dress with some cat faces as breast cups, which for me is not a good interpretation of the category but one thing positive about all these looks is that her makeup and hair looked stunning. For the "Butch Queen" look she said she wanted to showcase the fact you can be masculine but still be proud of your feminine side. I love that type of message but the look she wore didn't translate that message by itself which is a shame because everyone has a feminine side and we should embrace it, no matter what. For the last look, unfortunately it is poorly made and looks like she picked some fabric tied everyting up and that's it. Rupaul himself said that will probably a dress like that, because she likes it but i personally don't agree with that because the dress that Juju is wearing looks cheap and the execution is rough. When it comes to sewing, Juju was never amazing at it but there were times where she could make something wearable and even fashion but in this episode it feels like she gave up. Let's see if she can wake up and start slaying some challenges because i know how talented she is.
Next up, we have Mo Heart. I have to say Mo really surprised me in this episode, in a very good way. I was not expecting for her to showcase so much fashion and so much creativity in 2 out of her 3 looks. For the "Kitty Look" she wore an almost exact replica of Luna from Sailor Moon and this replica was spot on, it was so good and it shows her level of commitment to certain looks. Everything about the look was well done and i love that she even had a moon behind it, clearly stating her reference for this look but even without that moon, i think everyone would still know the reference. For the "Butch Queen" look, she basically wore a leather daddy look and i tell you when i saw this look my reaction was toscream and laugh at the same time because she really knock it out of the park with this look and, in my opinion, she got the best "Butch Queen" look out of everyone and i dare to say one of the best looks of the whole challenge. The last look though, it was a miss for me. It had lots of potencial but i think the main issue was the execution of it, it looks like the dress is loose, in other words, it seems like it doesn't fit properly and even wig was really not the best choice. She still got amazing critiques overall but if her last look was stronger she probably could have taken a top 2 placement this time.
Lastly on the runway, we have Pangina Heals, also known as PanPan. For the first look, she completely slayed the category wearing probably the most hig fashion cat look out of the whole cast. She said that her inspiration for this look was that hairless cat that appears in the music video of "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga and i love that reference being a little monster myself. For the "Bucth Queen" category she this time was inspired by Queen Elizabeth from the times she went hunting (mostly ducks). PanPan is not the first queen to wear something like this but she is the one that did this type of look in a better way and it fits the category perfectly once again. For the last category, her look was very different from what i was expecting but i still think it's a very sucessful look. I love her makeup, the headpiece and the dress as a whole is very unique and beautiful. The only negative critiques i have are that the black stockings are distracting, she could have walked out in this dress showing her bare legs since Rupaul does that almost all the time recently and the other negative point is that those shoes don't really go with the look, maybe some black high heels would work better, but overall she did a phenomenal job on this challenge, proving yet again that she shouldn't be understimated because she is a big threat in this competition and it's not afraid to play the game, meaning, eliminating strong competition.
Placements of this episode:
TOP 2 - Jimbo and Janey
HIGH - Pangina and Mo Heart
SAFE - Baga Chipz and Blu Hydrangea
BOTTOM 2 - Cheryl Hole and Jujubee
So Jimbo (once again) and Janey are the Top 2 of this episode so they have to decide which queen from the bottom they want to eliminate from the competition. They have to win the lipsync to reveal which queen they want to eliminate. For this week, the Top 2 have to lipsync to "Supermodel: The Remix" by Rupaul. The lipsync is a little bit lackluster but the winner of the lipsync is Janey. Besides getting the power to eliminate someone is also gets a gold RuPeter Badge. Janey reveals that she decided to eliminate Cheryl Hole, which for me, is a little bit of a surprise only because Juju was really the weakest out of everyone. Let's see if with this bottom placement, Juju wakes up and will Jimbo win a lipsync? We'll see.
